Working at LIU

Laura Marino

Laura Marino, Associate Underwriter, Excess Casualty & Umbrella

Starting with LIU in 2006 as a Technical Assistant, Laura Marino was recently promoted to Associate Underwriter. It’s a career progression she has always worked toward, and finally achieved at LIU.

Why LIU? “From my first interview I felt very comfortable here. It’s such a great atmosphere to work in. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.”

Describe your day-to-day? “I’m guided, but still have a lot of independence. It’s up to me to get my work done and do it well. I could be booking and issuing policies, creating loss runs or training new employees.”

What has helped you succeed at LIU? “I had the personal drive to volunteer for projects and take additional insurance classes. My managers and peers matched that enthusiasm with on-the-job mentoring and support. I sat in on telephone meetings and went out on sales calls. The first-hand experience was a great addition to the outside classes, which the company reimbursed.”

What advice would you give others looking to succeed at LIU? “Do as much as you can, because your efforts will always be rewarded.”
