David Cohen manages the financial performance of LIU’s U.S.operations, the direction of staff functions, and the coordination of product line and claims effectiveness. In his underwriting management capacity, he works with LIU USA’s chief underwriting officers to roll out strategy and guidelines, product development, marketing, and broker and customer relations. “We pride ourselves on being responsive and open-minded, as well as creative,” Cohen said. “Above all, we will get the job done. We look forward to working with brokers and their clients to solve their risk concerns.”
Anthony Carroll leads an integrated business team of globally located, experienced and dedicated underwriters, engineers and claims personnel who take an innovative, flexible approach to Marine, Energy and Construction lines of business. His leadership in the industry is well recognized with producers and clients. He has put a team in place that will understand your risk and work with you to create solutions to solve your most challenging risks with LIU’s in-house underwriting, risk management and claims expertise. His own background is in Energy Management, Fire Protection and Chemical Engineering. “What truly sets us apart is our instinct to create flexible risk solutions,” Carroll said. “We meet your needs quickly, consistently, and responsibly. Together, we can provide the best products for your clients.”

One of LIU’s first U.S. employees, Dan Vaughn was originally hired to build and underwrite LIU’s professional liability business. Vaughn soon established an $85 million book of profitable business for LIU. Now, as LIU’s chief operating officer, Vaughn focuses on enhancing the efficiency and responsiveness of LIU’s underwriting, claims, and operations teams, while ensuring the presence of responsive and compliant systems. “I enjoy finding solutions that help LIU deliver the highest quality products and services, and ultimately deliver the finest coverage and service to our brokers and insureds.” Vaughn said.
Being a strategic advisor to LIU and its clients is a role George Perrotta has honed through an accounting career that spans more than 30 years. With expertise in risk assessment, benefit analysis and financial management, he looks behind the numbers to understand the underlying business issues. “We have a strong entrepreneurial spirit,” Perrotta said, “and we keep that mindset when evaluating risk.”

David Oates has more than 20 years of experience in the property and casualty insurance industry. Beyond this technical knowledge, Oates is also a C.P.A. with vast expertise in financial analysis, budgeting and planning. He currently supports first party and third party Chief Underwriting Officers in managing various lines of business. He also places third party reinsurance in coordination with reinsurance brokers and Chief Underwriting Officers. “I enjoy dealing with the business aspect of the organization in a global role that helps enhance the overall operational efficiencies of our internal and external processes,” Oates said.
Carl Pursiano heads up LIU’s Management Liability domestic D&O operations. In addition to more than 20 years of specialty insurance experience, Pursiano stays abreast of current developments. He monitors the political, economic and legal developments that continuously affect this coverage area and therefore client needs. “We must be one step ahead to offer our clients the most complete coverage possible,” Pursiano said.

Denise Morris prides herself on getting back to you before the competition. “We want our service to be second to none,” Morris said. This extreme responsiveness is backed by financial strength, capacity, and depth of underwriter experience. Morris has spent more than 30 years in the industry, and currently specializes in Excess Casualty. “We’re problem solvers,” Morris said. “We will always try to make it work, and you will always know where you stand.”
With 30 years of experience in third party liability coverage, Robert Lala is a products liability specialist. His main goal is to provide honest and reliable service to his customers and respond to their concerns quickly. Learning about the operations of his clients’ companies and understanding the diversity of their products are keys to achieving that goal, and it has captured Lala’s attention from the beginning of his career. “I really appreciate the opportunity to learn about how companies produce products and services during the underwriting process,” Lala said.

William McElroy, an environmental specialist for the insurance industry for more than 20 years, leads an environmental risk underwriting unit that ensures that the needs of both clients and the environment are properly satisfied. He brings a strong knowledge of insured risks that help customers, producers and other trading partners receive reliable service. Clients also benefit from McElroy’s insights on environmental issues, and they rely on him to provide value. “If we do our jobs right, the planet is a little cleaner, and that’s good for everybody,” McElroy said.
With more than a decade in the Marine and Energy insurance industry specializing in Ocean Marine, Nigel Fitzgerald's career with LIU has spanned the globe. As the marine global practice leader, based in the US, Nigel draws on his experience in Sydney, Singapore and North America to manage and further develop LIU's Marine business in these regions.
No matter what the country or situation, Nigel maintains a steadfast approach to customer service that he expects from his entire team: “We must be there when our clients most need us — usually following a claim. Responding well during difficult circumstance is the best opportunity to prove the quality of our product.”

Tim Kania heads LIU’s Construction business. His strong technical background helps him underwrite the most complex projects—whether it’s a construction risk for power, oil and gas facilities or heavy civil works. In fact, he’s been in the energy and construction industry for more than 20 years. “I understand what people in real situations are faced with,” Kania said. “No two programs are the same - whether by design or industry - and they deserve a unique look and a resulting program that’s right for them.”
